In 1976, Elvis Presley was in Colorado and, having befriended several members of the Denver Police Department, he used them as a referral service. At the time he was also fascinated with numerology, which recommended that the power emitted by a black diamond was a healthy influence on the wearer of such a jewel. The King inquired of his gendarme buddies where he might acquire this power-laced, but extremely rare, piece of black ice. Kortz - they replied, knowing Bob Kortz and the fabulous reputation of the history laden enterprise, Kortz Jewelers, in downtown Denver - “If anybody can find a large black diamond, Bob Kortz can.” Bob delivered a 3.50 carat black beauty to The King.
